Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) is a neurological re-education of the facial and oral muscles. This therapy aids in correcting developing or matured structures so they can function at their optimal level.
Through a customized series of therapeutic exercises, Myo helps retrain and re-pattern the muscles of the face, tongue, and mouth. Over time, these exercises create strong, healthy habits that support proper oral posture, efficient breathing, and improved overall function.
Myo focuses on four main pillars:
• Correct tongue posture
Resting on the roof of the mouth to support jaw development, breathing, and swallowing.
• Proper nasal breathing
Encouraging healthy breathing patterns to improve oxygen flow, sleep quality, and oral health.
• Coordinated muscle function
Helping the lips, cheeks, tongue, and jaw work together as they should.
• Efficient chewing and swallowing
Training the body to use the correct muscles in the correct sequence.
When these systems are out of balance, children and adults may experience mouth breathing, poor oral habits, difficulties in chewing or swallowing, orthodontic challenges, speech concerns, or disrupted sleep patterns. Myo works to restore harmony by teaching the muscles how to function properly, leading to long-lasting structural and functional improvements.
Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy is proactive, gentle, and highly effective. It supports long-term oral health, creates better breathing patterns, and enhances day-to-day well-being for both children and adults.
Think of it like physio, but for your mouth!
Scope of Practice

Our Approach
In our discipline, we DO NOT diagnose or treat pain from various issues regarding the head and neck. We do, however, re-pattern muscle functions and poor habits. There are the 3 “R’s” that we stand by:
-
Recognize (see the signs and symptoms)
-
Refer (to the required health care professional)
-
Record (document what occurred and to where the patient was referred)
